I obtained a B.A. in English from the University of Georgia in 1993 and, after a career in business, obtained a Master’s of Science in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University in 2008. During my graduate work, most of my research focused on Postpartum Mood Disorders. I fulfilled my practicum/internship requirements at Ridgeview Institute’s Women’s Center beginning in August of 2007. While at Ridgeview, I managed patient caseloads presenting with eating disorders, addiction, psychiatric and trauma issues. I conducted family and individual therapy as well as lead and co-lead Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), didactic, trauma, process and check –in groups. At the end of my internship in April, 2008, I was hired as a PRN case manager for the Women’s Center fulfilling the same duties until October, 2010.
In January of 2009, I began my private practice work where I see individual clients ages 14 and up. My primary practice areas include working with women and couples effected by mood disorders related to infertility, pregnancy and postpartum as well as individuals and couples struggling with eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, communication, codependency, boundaries, adjustment and transition, and trauma. In October 2009, I began doing volunteer work for the Georgia Postpartum Support Network’s (GPSN) warm-line; a crisis hotline for women and families struggling with postpartum mood disorders. In May 2010, I began serving on the board of the Georgia Postpartum Support Network, a nonprofit organization working to provide resources to providers to promote screening for postpartum mood disorders.
In my office I offer a safe environment to work collaboratively with each individual or couple to discover what gets in their way of living their best life. My approach is based on person-centered, cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, experiential, and mindfulness based therapy. I am gentle, yet direct. My goal is to empower each client to define for themselves what it means to be happy and healthy.
